Los carotenoides son metabolitos muy vers\u00e1tiles y de gran importancia que pueden ser empleados como colorantes naturales, antioxidantes, fuente de vitamina A, as\u00ed como ingredientes funcionales. El valor de mercado global de carotenoides fue de 1.5 mil millones de \u20ac en 2014, y se espera que alcance los casi 1.8 mil millones de \u20ac en 2019. De los m\u00e1s de 750 carotenoides descritos hasta la fecha, tan solo unos 10 han sido estudiados con cierta profundidad, por lo que existe un gran potencial para generar resultados positivos a distintos niveles. CarNet pretende reunir y articular una masa cr\u00edtica y multidisciplinar de participantes a todos los niveles para promover el uso cooperativo de infraestructuras, de interacciones sin\u00e9rgicas, el intercambio, difusi\u00f3n, comunicaci\u00f3n, y la generaci\u00f3n de conocimiento entorno a los carotenoides. Esto contribuir\u00e1 a fortalecer las capacidades de investigaci\u00f3n e innovaci\u00f3n entorno a estos metabolitos.
